Description of Class

What are the words you live by? The phrases you say again and again, the pieces of advice your parents gave you, the catch phrases and expressions your family and friends use, the mantras you use to calm yourself, the thoughts that drive you, your favourite song lyrics, or simply words you love the sound of… In this workshop you will make a unique piece from these words — illustrating and decorating, using the joy of collage. We will search for and cut out images and words that stand out to us, and use them to construct an assemblage, creating visual connections between the images and words to make an artwork which is especially meaningful to you. This workshop is about experiencing some calming, creative, playful joy. We will use a variety of materials — vintage books, magazines, photographs, stamps, stickers, painted papers. LOCATION: former Clarkes of Sussex in Bond Street - Unfortunately, there is no lift in the building and so this workshop is not wheelchair accessible or right for you if you struggle with stairs. YOUR TUTOR: Ellen studied Fine Art, then subsequently Graphic Design. She has been working as a designer in and around Brighton for nearly 25 years. Over the last few years, she has been dedicating more time to drawing and painting, especially from life, particularly portraiture. Ellen loves the mental absorption that creative activity can bring, believing it to be useful and transformative for all. She enjoys facilitating workshops that give people a chance to experience this joy and focus. FEEDBACK FROM PREVIOUS WORKSHOPS: “I had a lot of fun when I got into it.
