Most questions that we are asked are below, but you need further information please get in touch via email.

  • Who are our courses for?
Our courses and workshops are ONLY for adults - unfortunately we are not able to accept bookings for people under 18 years old.
  • Do I have to book online?
As well as booking online, you can book over the phone using your debit or credit card. Our phone number is 01273 204204 and the office is open every weekday except for Thursdays from 10am - 4pm.
  • How accessible are the Evolution Arts Venues?
The Brighton Buddhist Centre, where many of our classes are held is fully accessible and has a lift. Clarkes of Sussex is not wheelchair accessible as classes take place on the first floor and the toilet is up several flights of stairs. Westhill Hall is on the ground floor and is accessible to all. For other venues e.g. Hearts & Flowers and the Houseboat in Shoreham please contact the office for further information.
  • What happens if I miss a class?
Missing a class is a shame for you but should not affect your course too much. Ideally, we would like to know if you are going to miss a class so we can inform your tutor. He or she will attempt to pass on any notes/homework where applicable.
  • What do I need to wear?
For yoga classes wear loose, comfortable clothing. For art classes we suggest you wear clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty.
  • What do I need to bring to my class?
Each course description will include a materials list if applicable or suggestions of what to bring in the main course text.
  • What should I do about lunch on a weekend workshop?
You will need to provide your own lunch. Some of our venues (the Buddhist Centre and Clarkes) have tea making facilities. There are plenty of shops and cafes nearby if you need to buy food on the day.
  • Can I park near the venue?
It is recommended that you travel to Brighton by train or bus, as parking in the vicinity of Evolution is increasingly difficult.
  • I'm a beginner – is this class suitable?
The majority of our courses and workshops are suitable for beginners. Each course description indicates whether or not it is. If you would like further information you can call the Evolution Team on 01273 204204.
  • What if I'm pregnant?
Not all of our yoga and dance classes are suitable for pregnant women, especially if you are in the first 14 weeks of pregnancy. If you are pregnant, please let us know before booking.
  • Can I contact my tutor?
On rare occasions tutors may decide to give out their personal information to students, but as a rule all correspondence needs to come via the Evolution office. If you have a question for your tutor or you need to inform them that you will be absent, please email and the team will be happy to pass on your message.
  • Is it possible to hire studio space?
It is no longer possible to hire studio space.
  • How can I join the mailing list?
We send a bi-monthly newsletter and occasional extra updates about our courses, workshops, and Evolution Arts news and offers. To be added to our mailing list simply ring the team on 01273 204204. Or you can use this link to pop us an email. Just add your name and send the mail through and we'll include you in our future mailouts!
  • Refunds & Cancellations
Changed your mind? There is a 72-hour “cooling off” period from the point of booking (and payment) when you may request a full refund for a course/workshop which has not yet started or is not due to start during that 72-hour period. 72 hours after payment and booking, and at least 10 days before the start of a course/workshop, students may request a partial refund (a £10 admin charge will be retained for each cancelled course/workshop). Also within this time period, students may transfer the course fee to pay for another course offered by Evolution. If the course fee for the new course is a lesser cost, the remainder can be refunded (subject to a £10 administration fee) or be used as a credit to a further course or workshop. Cancellations less than 10 days before the start of a course/workshop (or after the course has started) will not be eligible for a refund or transferal to another course. However, if there are exceptional circumstances such as a serious medical condition, requests may be made in writing for a full or partial credit (emails to This credit can be used as part payment for any course or workshop within 12 months. A medical certificate or letter from a medical professional will be required. Please bear in mind that Evolution Arts is a registered charity (No.1133828) and to operate successfully it’s important that we adhere to this policy.
  • Cancellation of courses
On rare occasions we may cancel under-subscribed courses/workshops. As late bookings can be frequent any such decision is made as late as possible. If a cancellation is necessary, we will give those booked two days notice by phone and a full refund. You may wish to check your course is going ahead before buying art materials, etc.
  • Concessions
Evolution Arts tries to keep its prices as affordable as possible. Concessions on course fees are available to: Under-25s Unwaged Over-65s Due to the current financial climate and difficulties faced by many people we are applying our concessions policy lightly. If your circumstances make a course unaffordable at the full price, please feel free to email the office and we will consider your position and may well offer you a concessionary rate. Concessions are not available on evening courses where there is a daytime equivalent.
  • Bookings for Young People
We are an adult education centre - unfortunately we are not able to accept bookings for Under-18s on our courses and workshops.
