The Art of Mixed Media In this 5 hour mixed media art workshop, we will explore various drawing and painting techniques. There will be an opportunity to use collage as a means to experiment and expand ideas as well to help with composition, formulating ideas and one’s style. The session combines art historical research with practical experimentation, and development of a personal project in the afternoon. Postcards and artbooks will be provided to work from in the session. Also feel free to come with your own work and resources that you would like to look at. Informal discussion will take place to support the process. The workshop offers a balance of structure and creative freedom and is open to all skill levels. Basic materials will be provided: acrylic paints (please bring your own for a wider selection), brushes, cartridge paper and some paper for collage. We will also provide some glue, pritt sticks and scissors but you may prefer to bring your own. Students to bring: Scraps of paper/ small found objects to use for collage For your final piece - a panel or a shoe-box sized box:- Suggested minimum size A3 MDF wood panel. Available at wood merchants [cheap] or DIY stores, art shops or online. The back of an old picture frame or piece of cardboard box- free! Optional extras- inks, water colours, oil pastel, soft pastel, charcoal. Only if you already own them and would like to work further with them. There may be some small extra costs for practicing on paper or using other materials. Amy studied at Hampstead Art School and Central Saint Martins; she is an art educator and has exhibited at the RA and the British Museum; she has created videos for Channel Four and was a key artist in the award-winning film Peter by Sanjay Kumar. Location: former Clarkes of Sussex in Bond Street - Unfortunately, there is no lift in the building and so this workshop is not wheelchair accessible or right for you if you struggle with stairs.
