Creative Writing: Myths, Legends & Winter Wonderlands Join us for a winter-themed exploration of myths, legends and fairy tales old and new. We’ll look at the enduring myth of the Queen of Winter or Snow Queen, and meet the sun-stealing raven of the North American inuits. Plus, we’ll hear of the battles between the Oak King and the Holly King in Celtic/Pagan mythology, and the Norse explanation of why we kiss under the mistletoe. We’ll look at the original sources, but also at crafted fairytales by writers such as Hans Christian Andersen and Oscar Wilde; and at creative reworkings of myths and fairy tales by authors such as Helen Oyeyemi, Angela Carter, CS Lewis, and Erin Morgenstern. There will be a number of creative writing exercises throughout the day to inspire you and kick-start your own writing. We aim to create a supportive and creative environment that is suitable for all levels – beginners and experienced writers welcome. Max has performed, directed and taught creative writing, drama and performing arts at arts centres, festivals and universities across the world.
