Description of Class
There will be a break in this course on 27 May (half term). Course ends on 17 June. Small in stature, but large of heart, flash fiction gets you thinking, gifts you a story to mull over for days, months, years to come. Something you’ll want to read again and again. It’s similar to poetry in this respect. During these relaxed and friendly sessions, you’ll get to read examples of flash fiction (a story told in under one thousand words) and discuss as a group what you thought of them. There is writing time too of course! After each story there’s a writing sprint accompanied by a prompt designed to spark new and unexpected story ideas. There will be an invitation to share what you’ve written in class. Sharing your work is absolutely optional. This course, drawing on the playful and precise nature of flash fiction writing, will fire your imagination, spark new and unexpected story ideas, and help to hone your writing skills. Suitable for beginners and intermediate writers. And, as each six-week course includes new material, it’s also suitable for writers who’ve taken one of Anika’s flash fiction courses before, and would like to continue to explore the genre. What to Bring Pen/pencil and a notebook and/or a laptop. Your Tutor Anika Carpenter is a flash fiction author, workshop facilitator and artist based in Brighton. Her fiction has been published in numerous anthologies, and shortlisted for the Bath Flash Fiction Award and the Bridport Prize. Her work has also been nominated for a Pushcart Prize, Best of the Net and Best Small Fiction. You can read her flash fiction online in Gone Lawn, The Disappointed Housewife, Fictive Dream, and many more. Testimonials: 'It got me writing! Exactly what I needed.
