Description of Class

INTERMEDIATE COURSE This course runs for 7 weeks. March 3, 10, 17, 24 & 31 - Easter break on 7 April and then 14 & 21 April. All sessions at Westhill except 31 March (in nature). Deepening Your Practice: Collaborative Vocal Improvisation & Embodied Voicework This course is for people who’ve already worked with me, or who have some experience with singing and improvisation, and want to explore this practice more deeply. We’ll work with the voice in a more spacious, expressive way — building confidence, letting go, listening more closely, and discovering new possibilities in your sound. Together we’ll explore how to move as a group: leading, following, responding, and discovering the kind of flow that happens when voices really meet and play. There will still be grounding, meditative elements, but the focus is on stretching your creativity, exploring richer harmonies and textures, and growing your improvisational freedom. It’s a joyful, supportive space to deepen your relationship with your voice and with the group — and to discover what becomes possible when we allow ourselves to be heard, to connect, and to create in the moment. Bex is also providing an introductory course starting on 6 January. Intermediate students are welcome to take part in both courses. Your tutor: Bex Fidler has an MA in the applied arts, a diploma with distinction in holistic voice therapy, is trained in collaborative vocal improvisation techniques and is initiated and trained in shamanic practices from the Q’ero tradition. You can read Bex's full bio on our tutor page. Testimonials: "As someone who is not a musician and is not even sure if I can even sing in tune (!) the singing groups have been an amazing and liberating experience for me. Starting out with very grounding and meditative singing practices, connects you with a deeper sense of yourself. When the group comes together for improvisation, instead of feeling completely terrified, it feels like a place of safety where you can experiment with being seen or unseen. I start off with very much following others but before I know it I am free flowing and stepping out in a playful and experimental way. It feels amazing to suddenly be part of a singing group where I am not afraid to be seen and heard ! It sounds incredibly beautiful and is a profoundly connecting experience." "I enjoyed connecting with others through sound, exploring my abilities, playing with my voice, pushing my fears and inhibitions away."
