Description of Class
This course runs for 6 weeks. There will be a break on Tuesday 27 January. The last class will be 17 February. An Introduction to Therapeutic Voicework & Collaborative Vocal Improvisation Singing and working with the voice engages the breath, connects us to the heart, calms the nervous system, and gently guides us out of our busy minds. We use our voices every day — to express, to connect, to be heard — and yet so many of us carry tension, inhibition or self-judgment around how we sound. This welcoming introductory course offers a gentle and therapeutic approach to building — or renewing — a positive, empowering relationship with your voice. Through guided therapeutic voicework, you’ll explore grounding vocal tools that support the parasympathetic nervous system, help release emotional and mental blocks, and strengthen your connection to your own inner wisdom. We’ll also sing together, weaving simple improvised sound, playing with melody, rhythm and harmony, and exploring the joy of collaborative vocal improvisation in a completely supportive, no-pressure space. Whether you’re drawn to singing, curious about your voice, or longing to reconnect with yourself through sound, all are welcome — including those who “can’t” sing. No experience needed. Just curiosity. Note: If you have done this course before you may be interested in the new intermediate course. Returning intermediate students are also very welcome to join the intro course. If you need to pay in instalments to access this course, please get in touch. Testimonials: "As someone who is not a musician and is not even sure if I can even sing in tune (!) the singing groups have been an amazing and liberating experience for me. Starting out with very grounding and meditative singing practices, connects you with a deeper sense of yourself. When the group comes together for improvisation, instead of feeling completely terrified, it feels like a place of safety where you can experiment with being seen or unseen. I start off with very much following others but before I know it I am free flowing and stepping out in a playful and experimental way. It feels amazing to suddenly be part of a singing group where I am not afraid to be seen and heard ! It sounds incredibly beautiful and is a profoundly connecting experience." "I enjoyed connecting with others through sound, exploring my abilities, playing with my voice, pushing my fears and inhibitions away."
