Description of Class

There is a concession available for this course for people: Under 25, over 65 or in full time unemployment. This course is fully booked. We will run it again in the Autumn. Details of Course: Inks, painting mark-making and collage incorporating art therapy, group work and positive psychology. Guided activities experimenting and playing with a range of art materials, open to all regardless of previous experience in art. Previous participants of the ' Discoveries through Drawing ' course will find new activities. These group sessions are an invitation to play and explore with art materials, regardless of your previous experience in art. Each session begins with a verbal check in with each other in the group, followed by experiential work in guided art making processes, and ends with a group sharing. "The art work we make together often surprises. It comes about through our letting go of preconceived ideas, standards or expectations about a finished product. We work together quietly in a supportive space which engenders discovery, spontaneity and fun. All you need to bring is a willingness to experiment." What follows on from the process of exploring with materials such as inks, paints, & pastels, in a guided, non judgemental way - happens without effort, usually reveals more of our own potential & creativity and can lead to a positive impact on well-being and a lessening of stress." tutor, Michael Gale. Your tutor Michael Gale trained in Art Psychotherapy at Goldsmiths, University of London in 1996, gaining experience within adult mental health and drug & alcohol dependency settings, and then as a qualified Registered Art Therapist, within special education and mainstream schools offering 1-1 and group Art Therapy. He studied Fine Art and continues to make paintings and collages as well as facilitating experimental art workshops for adults. Testimonials "Michael is a welcoming, encouraging and "supportive teacher who created a relaxed and permissive space in which it was very easy to engage in a series of structured exercises. I enjoyed all of it, particularly using techniques that aim to bypass normal ways of drawing and making art. Thoroughly recommended!" Mick, Brighton, June 2022 "I loved the variety of materials and exploring techniques."
