Description of Class

Details of Course: Provides a grounding in the traditional oil painting techniques and methods on which to build in order to achieve a likeness. Participants can choose to concentrate on portraiture, landscape or still life or try two or all three. This course provides set projects alongside individual tuition and covers all the basic principles of painting and drawing, i.e. composition, colour mixing and theory, line, tone, texture, proportion and anatomy and different methods of approach. The emphasis is on being able to translate into paint what you see and develop your own vision. The subject matter will be both student led and from set exercises. Suitable for all levels i.e. those with some experience who wish to continue to develop their own ideas as a follow on from previous courses and for complete beginners. What to bring - please see image below for details Your tutor Juliet has an M.F.A in Fine Arts (Auckland University) and a PhD on the relationship between music and painting (University of Brighton). She works as a professional portrait painter and continues to develop her abstract painting. She has many years’ experience in teaching oil painting, printmaking, life drawing and portraiture.
