Information on the Wise Awareness course 

This course is designed for people who have completed a mindfulness course or have an established mindfulness meditation practice. 

Annie and Carolyn have drawn on their many years of mindfulness practice and teaching, as well as Carolyn's background in neuroscience, in developing this exciting new course.   

Why train in wise awareness? 

Recent research is showing how wisdom, far from being vague and mystical, can be used in practical ways towards making good decisions in our daily lives.

The benefits can be found in improving our capacity to take a wider perspective, understanding our views and emotional responses to events and how this can help us as we navigate everyday challenges. Training in wisdom helps us to reflect more effectively on any situation; make better decisions; and be more accepting of change and uncertainty.

What can I expect from a wise awareness course?

  • The Wise Awareness Course is a further development from the Mindfulness Courses and complements the Compassion Course (MBCL).
  • The course draws on the Buddhist roots of mindfulness and the new field of wisdom science and has been developed by Annie Akasati and Carolyn together.
  • You will discover how the emerging science of wisdom is opening up new ways of working effectively with the challenges and flux of life.
  • You will learn to use meditation and practices designed to develop greater awareness and confidence in approaching difficulties more effectively.
  • There will be encouragement and support to maintain a home practice for the duration of the course.
  • Sessions are conducted in a friendly and open atmosphere to encourage sharing and relationship building.

This course also includes an additional 'retreat' session, date by arrangement with the participants.

Dr Carolyn Drake

Dr. Carolyn Drake Carolyn has been teaching Mindfulness for five years, having trained with the Sussex Mindfulness Trust and the Mindfulness in Schools Project. She was formally a Neuroscientist working on brain development. She has also run her own primary school. She now runs mindfulness courses for adults and children. She has been meditating
for over 15 years.

Annie Akasati McAuley

Annie Akasati McAuley has been practicing mindfulness for over three decades and has taught mindfulness and meditation since the late '90s in a variety of contexts including courses, retreats and schools. Annie has a background in Buddhist meditation and philosophy, but has enjoyed training more recently to pass on the ancient skills of mindfulness practice in a contemporary, secular context.
