Discoveries through Drawing Workshop

Tutor: Michael Gale
Location:  Clarkes of Sussex, Bond Street Brighton

Next start date:  5 February 2022 from 1pm to 4pm

Painting, mark-making, inks, and collage incorporating art therapy, group work & positive psychology

This group workshop is an invitation to play and explore with art materials, regardless of your previous experience in art. The session begins with a verbal check in with each other in the group, followed by experiential work in guided art making processes, and ends with a group sharing.

This workshop is designed as a stand alone workshop but is also an opportunity to try out Michael’s group work before signing up for an 8 week course in the Summer term.

"The art work we make together often surprises. It comes about through our letting go of preconceived ideas, standards or expectations about a finished product. We work together quietly in a supportive space which engenders discovery, spontaneity and fun. All you need to bring is a willingness to experiment."

"What follows on from the process of exploring with materials such as inks, paints, & pastels, in a guided, non judgemental way - happens without effort, usually reveals more of our own potential & creativity and can lead to a positive impact on wellbeing and a lessening of stress."

"I thought the course was very instructive in a subtle way and motivational too.  As a person of limited experience and drawing talent I quickly felt unselfconscious about my lack of knowledge and ability and just dived straight into each exercise.  This was very much due to Michael's approach; he was sensitive  to our varying levels of talent and knowledge and quietly encouraged each of us to follow through with our efforts.
I've just returned from a week of visiting various galleries and found myself paying much more attention to the choice of colour, the way it had been applied  to the canvas and the mood of the finished product.  That is a big win for me." Carolyn Lawless, 2021
