> > Reflexology

This holistic therapy has its roots in many ancient cultures and works on the energy zones running through the body which end in reflex points on the feet, hands and ears. Any illness, stress, injury or disease affecting the mind, body or spirit can cause blockages within these paths of energy.  Reflexology aims to revive the body’s self-healing mechanisms by stimulating the reflexes into clearing blockages within the body’s corresponding energy zone. This helps restore balance within the body and encourages optimum functioning of the body and its systems.

Health Benefits

Reflexology helps relieve stress and tension, stimulates the immune and circulatory systems, eliminates toxins and is an excellent harmoniser through life changes, such as, moving house, changing jobs, menopause or bereavement. Specific ailments that can benefit include.

Sessions begin with a consultation covering general health, lifestyle and any specific symptoms or problems, whilst soaking the feet. The rest of the session is completed whilst relaxing on the couch. After some warm-up techniques the reflexes are worked with varying amounts of pressure, concentrating on those relating to a person’s specific needs.  Areas of tenderness or resistance are often indicators of imbalances within the body’s system. I include elements of Vertical Reflex Therapy (VRT) to enhance the treatment and address the reflexes requiring extra attention. Diaphragm rocking helps stimulate and replenish the main energy centre within the body. Synergistic Reflexology pin points the same two reflexes on the feet and hands to increase the energy flow through a specific channel. A  Zonal Trigger in the ankle will be worked in conjunction with a Synergistic Reflex afterwards to promote deeper therapeutic benefits relating to each individual. The treatment finishes with a relaxing foot massage. The number of treatments required varies according to each individual. Generally, a course of six weekly sessions is recommended to harmonize the systems of the body, although chronic conditions may require more.

All products used in the treatment are free from animal products and have not been tested on animals, so are suitable for vegans.

Effects of the treatment

Most people find reflexology pleasurable as it relaxes, energizes and induces an overall feeling of well-being. Rest and reducing the amount of toxins like caffeine and alcohol consumed is recommended afterwards to aid the healing process. Following a treatment the elimination of toxins can occasionally be experienced as mild ‘flu’ like symptoms, drinking plenty of water will help flush them out.

Leila Randall IIHHT MHAO

A holistic approach to any form of dis-ease, be it physical or emotional has always been prevalent in my lifestyle.  Understanding the necessity of this attitude prompted me to investigate Complementary Therapies. I qualified in Reflexology and Advanced Reflexology in 2002 and completed the Vertical Reflex Therapy (VRT) training in 2004. I have a working knowledge of Bach Flower remedies and often recommend them in conjunction with a course of treatment as they can assist with the healing process. I’m also trained in Indian Head Massage, Ear Candling, Animal Healing and Canine Massage. Whilst raising my children, I have practised part time since qualifying in various locations as well as providing a mobile service.
