Introduction to Art Weaving Short Course

Tutor: Jackie Bennett

Dates: 23rd October and 6th November: 1:30 to 4:30pm

Location: Clarkes of Sussex - a light and airy venue.  Maximum of 8 students.

Two workshops that will build up your weaving techniques step-by-step and result in a piece of weaving that you will be able to display on a wall. Suitable for complete beginners and those who would like to revise weaving basics. This will provide you with a foundation to weave your own art tapestry pieces or move on to another type of weaving.

Session 1

We will learn to put a warp on our frames, knot the base and start learning tapestry weaving, with a wide range of colours of wool yarns. Learn to combine the yarns and weave blocks of colour. A simple fringe can also be added if desired.

Session 2

Learn to build up angles and curves in your weaving, and weave outlining techniques, including soumak and other textural effects.

Information: Notes on warping-up and the techniques learnt will be provided. At each session, Jackie will demonstrate the techniques and provide guidance and feedback. You will work at your own pace. There will be the option to weave at home between sessions if you wish. Suitable for complete beginners and those with some weaving experience. Weaving materials and equipment:

Small Frame Looms and yarns will be provided for each participant @£30

You will also need scissors, an old dining fork, a 30cm ruler and a pencil.
