What is Thai Massage?
Contemporary Thai massage has become a rich blend of yoga, Ayurvedic medicine and traditional Chinese medicine.
This can be seen from the movements (similar to the asanas in yoga) and attention to pressure points (similar to the nadis in Ayurveda and meridians of Chinese medicine).
Some people say that receiving a Thai massage is a bit like doing yoga without putting in any effort.
At a physical level, Thai massage is known to relieve:
▪ Back pain
▪ Sciatica
▪ Shoulder and neck pain
▪ Indigestion
▪ Circulation
Thai massage also relieves muscle and joint stiffness, improves posture and increases flexibility. It also promotes deep relaxation and rejuvenation.
It is typically given through light clothing on a futon or mat on the floor. Usually no oil is applied.
