Stained Glass Courses
Tutor: Ben Conti
Location: Evolution Arts, 2 Sillwood Terrace, Brighton BN1 2LR
Next Start Date: Friday 21 April 2017 (Intro)
Friday 30 June 2017 (Advanced)
What does this course cover?
- Create stunning stained glass pieces using recycled wood and glass.
- Our tutor will guide you through traditional techniques from design to finishing touches.
- No experience necessary, this course is great for first timers and returning students alike.
In a small group you will be able to craft your own individual stained-glass panel using traditional leaded techniques, and learn to create sculptures from recycled glass and wood. You will be helped to design your piece and then taught all the cutting and assembling techniques involved.
The intro course is suitable for absolute beginners (including those who feel they are not ‘artistic’) as well as those with experience.
In the Advanced Stained Glass course you will explore techniques further, and learn new techniques.

Who is the tutor?
Ben: After art collage I trained in cabinet making and then completed two stained glass courses. I have been working with stained glass since 1999. I repair and restore stained glass and also design and make panels for clients. I paint on glass for more expressive pieces and have been experimenting with kiln formed glass also.
I find this craft challenging enough and aesthetically pleasing enough to keep me interested year after year. I love the final effect a piece has. Be it a broken piece restored to its original state or a new creation. There is a magical quality that the glass possesses as it refracts the light differently from day to day with changes to daylight intensity and when seen from one view point to another. It glimmers and sparkles its spectrum as you move.

I created two stained glass panels for my bathroom (see gallery) after attending this course. Paul's course was brilliant and he was helpful in every aspect of learning stained glass and also in painting on glass. He comes highly recommended! Eileen
Paul is a very good teacher. He suggests, encourages, demonstrates but never leads too much. Nice atmosphere. I always feel happier for my 2hrs and get a lot of pleasure from the class and the things I make. Simon
I learnt a lot on this course. Paul was a helpful tutor and made all the activities fun and easy. I particularly liked the soldering. Cecilia
I liked fluidity of teaching - we could all work on our individual projects at our own pace whilst Paul also could teach around a particular technique we could 'drop in' to learn and practice if we wanted. Claire
Paul is very helpful, friendly and knowledgable. He gives advice but lets you do your own thing. Really enjoyed this course and the last! Natasha
Freedom to persue own ideas. I felt now that I can go away and make other stained glass projects of my own. I will be back to make something more ambitious in 2012. Patti
Creative, light, friendly atmosphere, enjoyed the freedom of it doing something for myself and taking it home. Managed to do 5 items. Paul was very helpful, with good advice or guidance without being too directive. Anon
Paul is excellent teacher. He structures the course well and balance of advice/support and letting you do your thing is just right. Simon
Paul is a fantastic teacher who inspires confidence, has an open attitude, which enables people to realise their potential/ambition. Jane
Definitely helped me relax while doing my dissertation. I tend not to think about anything when at Stained Glass which is such a nice break. Alisa
Really enjoyed learning a new creative skill in a very relaxed environment. Anon
