Sew & Mend

Tutor: Tara Dakini

There’s so much you can do with just a needle, thread and a little know-how. On this workshop you’ll learn tips and tricks that will help you mend, alter and customise your clothes, from sewing on buttons to shortening hems, and lots of useful things in between – all by hand! Sewing equipment is provided but please bring a pad and pen. If you have any clothes that need mending, please bring them (see below for suggestions). There will also be fabric for you to practise on.

About the tutor

Tara has been sewing and making things for more than 30 years. She is an experienced dressmaker and embroiderer and runs a variety of textile craft workshops from upcycled flowers and toys to Japanese quilting www.mistressofstitch.co.uk.

Suggested items to bring:

  • Buttons and/or a garment with a missing button

  • A garment that needs shortening, for example a pair of trousers, a skirt, dres, shirt or blouse

  • Something that has a small hole in it

  • Something that has a small stain on it

Don't worry if you don't have these items – there'll be fabric for you to practise on. Or you could ask your friends if they have anything that needs mending!
