Portrait Painting – NEW!

This course will include drawing the head, colour theory and the history of costume and portraiture. Students will experiment with ideas through group discussion and informal sharing of work. Please bring a starter set of acrylic paint, a pencil and some acrylic brushes. We will work from a model, photographs and magazines, which are included in the fee. All abilities welcome.

About the tutor

Amy trained at Camden School of Art, St Martins, and Brighton University in Visual & Performing Arts. She works as a freelance artist – exhibitions include the ICA – and in 2010, she worked as the key artist on two film productions.

Materials List

If possible, please bring the following items to the first week of the course. A 10% discount is available at Clarkes Stationers, Bond Street, who sell a good range of artist’s materials – just tell them you are doing a course with Evolution and take a booking acknowledgement.

PAINTS A starter set of acrylic paints or Acrylic paints in red, blue and yellow and white. Other useful colours are yellow ochre and flesh tint.

BRUSHES A range of about three acrylic brushes of various sizes; some suggestions for brushes:

  • Size 2 round head
  • Size 10 filburt
  • 1” flat head

PAPER Paper is supplied at 20p per sheet for cartridge and 5pm per sheet for newsprint.

Other useful extra items: 6B pencil, rag or tissues, palette or old plate, masking tape
