Inventing the Truth: Creative Non-Fiction

Tutor: Dorothy Max Prior
Location: Evolution Arts, 2 Sillwood Terrace, Brighton BN1 2LR
Next date: Wednesday 12 September 2018  Sorry, this course is now fully booked.

This six-week practical workshop for writers (or would-be writers) of true-life stories will explore many and various forms of creative non-fiction writing, including memoir, biography, travel writing, cultural commentary, and long-form magazine journalism on any subject.

We will look at good examples of all the above forms, and more; explore the border and interplay between fiction and non-fiction; and employ creative writing exercises to develop non-fiction writing skills. Our aim will be to find or develop different ways of reflecting on our own life and other lives, to hone our skills in writing about contemporary or historical culture, and to use writing to explore the ‘real world’ that we find ourselves in – whatever that might mean to each of us.

Writers with any level of experience are all welcome. If you have a writing project already started or intended that you would like to develop over the course, this is fine. Or come with an open mind and a blank page, and together we will see where that takes you!

Writers with any level of experience are all welcome.
