Writing the Elements

Tutor: Wendy Ann Greenhalgh
Explore the seasons, rhythms and beauty of the natural world with creative prose, poetry and autobiography. Taking the elements – fire, water, earth and air – as our starting point and drawing on personal experiences of the natural world, this workshop reveals what a rich source of inspiration nature can be. We’ll look at examples of nature writing and use exercises to develop language rich with power and symbolism. We’ll make words crackle from the page so that they don’t just describe the natural world around us, but act as resonant metaphors for all things under the sun.

Testimonials
Lots of ideas generated with a number of potential stories now begging to be written. It made me think about how I represent the elements in my writing and the different ways I could use language to explore them further. Wendy was well prepared and creates a very inviting atmosphere in which to write and share ideas. I loved playing around with words in the language generating stone activity in particular. Lela
