Dance Yourself Stupid

Tutor: Dorothy Max Prior
Location: Evolution Arts, 2 Sillwood Terrace, Brighton BN1 2LR
Next date: weekend workshop Saturday 07 & Sunday 08 October 2017

This workshop explores the many and various possibilities of comic and popular dance – investigating the vaudeville tradition, and exploring the potential of many different dance forms in the creation of comic numbers. Over the weekend, we’ll work on classic eccentric and comic dance routines, such as those popularised by Laurel & Hardy, and the legendary Wilson Keppel & Betty; explore a number of popular dance rhythms such as Charleston, Tango, Jazz, and Mambo and investigate how these can be used for theatrical or comic effect; and subvert well-known dance traditions such as the Can Can and Saturday Night Fever, giving them a comic twist. Participants will be helped to create their own comic dance numero.
